Telling Bourbon

The nation holds a split opinion on Martha. Martha Stewart that is.

Her 50-year career as the original influencer has had its ups and downs. I’ll admit I was intimidated by her when she first surfaced with a crafty concept of attaching faux holly berries to the bare stems of shrubbery at create a welcoming festive holiday entrance. It was over the top for me.

I started reading her magazine “Martha Stewart Living” and found at least one worthy (and matched to my minimal skill level) entertaining idea per issue. 

I fell totally for Martha when she companioned with Snoop Dogg with their ad for can of bisque or was it, er, cannabis?

Martha has her hand in all aspects of living…including mastery of the best bourbon concoction for the holidays: Martha’s Cider-Bourbon Cocktail.

Martha, of course, uses homemade apple cider and you can get that recipe from her website www.marthastewart.com. But you can use cider fresh from the store too.

Pull your cocktail shaker from the corners of your bar cabinet and fill it with ice. Add:

¾ cup apple cider

1/3 cup bourbon

2 Tablespoons fresh lemon juice

2 2 ½-inch-long slices of fresh ginger

Shake until the beverage is chilled and pour into two glasses. Garnish with a very thin slice of lady apple. Go Martha style by cutting out a star-shape at the core.

It’s a good thing, as Martha would say.
